*Innovation
We are always hard at work sourcing earth friendly ingredients and revolutionizing traditional designs to fit the new materials. We have introduced several bold products to the market beginning in 2002 with a kapok stuffed zabuton. We take the risk of loosing sales because the environment is so important to us. We are the first to design a recycled-wood meditation bench and a unique buckwheat yoga block.

*Furniture for Small Spaces
Traditional Japanese Furniture is very suited to small spaces. An ancient culture developed on a crowded island finds a perfect fit with today's cities where space is limited. Big cars and big houses are going out of style. Small spaces are easier to heat and cool and require less resources to build. With this at once ancient and revolutionary concept in interior design, a small room can be spacious, and serve multifunctions without sacrificing comfort and quality of life.

*History
We've been around since 1985. See The Birth of a Meditation Cushion Salesman for an amazing story of our quest.

*We donate to the Drepung Loseling Monestary
Drepung Loseling Institute is dedicated to the study and preservation of the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. A center for the cultivation of both heart and intellect, it provides a sanctuary for the nurturance of inner peace and kindness, community understanding, and global healing.

*Certified Green Business
We are a certified green business and have been for 20 years. Click on the Co-op America image above to see our environmental committment.

*Recycling
We have eliminated all plastic from our packaging. This saves thousands of plastic bags from ending up in landfills every year. We print only a one page brochure on 100% recycled paper with soy ink. We recycle all office paper and bottles. Our fabric scaps are donated to a local charity which makes them into blankets for the homeless. We employ LEAN manufacturing techniques which makes our operation super efficient and competitive even in the Global Economy. We are constantly working on reducing our energy needs.

*Made in America
We are one of the last holdouts of manufacturing businesses still in operation that haven't moved overseas. We employ people in a rural Appalacian region which prevents extra driving and helps the local economy.

*We Practice what we Preach
We believe at the crux of the environmental crisis is a fundamental problem with our ability to be present to the beauty of the moment, which leads to constant striving, craving, and a feeling of "never having enough". Meditation is a way to access those inner realms which opens the heart and increases awareness and compassion for all beings.

*Directions to our place.

We are located an hour north of Asheville, North Carolina. We have a small showroom and welcome visitors.

Directions from Asheville (one hour driving time): Take HWY. 19/23 North toward Mars Hill. Take the next exit after the Mars Hill exit (about 3 miles on the right). There is a stop light there. Follow this road (19E) about 18 miles to Burnsville and then four miles past Burnsville. Take the Micaville exit on the right and then another right at the stop sign. (There are actually two exits which go to the same HWY 80 S. If you somehow take the second exit because you don't see the first--about 1/4 mile further--you will turn left onto HWY 80 S. instead of right). Follow this road (HWY 80 South) about nine miles. Carolina Morning Designs is on the right 100 yards after the Hamrick sign and immediately before the Amoco station on the left.

You can also take the Blue Ridge Parkway from Asheville. Click here for Mapquest. It takes an extra 15 minutes, but it's well worth it. Just be careful if there is rain or fog likely. Follow the Parkway North past Craggy Gardens and Mount Mitchell State Park. Get off on the Highway 80 exit. (Turn right off the Parkway then left at the stop sign). You will be heading down toward Burnsville and Busick. Go about five miles until you pass Carolina Hemlocks Campground, then a bridge, then an Amoco station on the right. Carolina Morning Designs is the next building on the left after Amoco. Look for the sign. Warning: The Parkway is Currently Closed at Mount Mitchell.
